Abstract
El presente estudio descriptivo tiene por objetivo determinar el nivel de depresión
en adultos mayores albergados en un asilo de ancianos de la ciudad de Iquitos.
Se utilizó la Escala de Autovaloración de Depresión de Zung, en una muestra de
40 adultos mayores con características: 67,5% de sexo masculino, el 45,0% se
encuentran en un rango de 70 a 79 años de edad, el 82,5% tienen educación
primaria y el 70,0% residen en el asilo de 5 a menos años.
Según el sexo se observa que un mayor porcentaje de adultos mayores de sexo
masculino presentan Depresión intensa (37,0%) y Depresión moderada a intensa
(40,7%). Mientras que un mayor porcentaje de adultos mayores de sexo
femenino presentan Depresión leve a moderado (30,7%); y Límites normales
(15,4%).
Según la edad, se observa mayor porcentaje con Depresión Intensa en adultos
mayores de 90 años a mas (50,0%) y de 70 a 90 años (33,3%); con Depresión
moderada a intensa en los de 70 a 79 años (50,0%) y los de 80 a 89 años
(36,4%), con Depresión leve a moderada en los de 60 a 69 años (42,8%) y los
de 80 a 89 años (36,4%). Y con Límites normales los de 70 a 79 años (11,1%) y
los de 80 a 89 años (9,1%). Según el grado de instrucción, presentan Depresión
intensa solo los de nivel primario (36,4%); con Depresión Moderada a intensa los
de nivel primario (42,4%) y los de nivel superior (33,3%); con Depresión leve a
moderada los de nivel secundario (50,0%) y los de nivel superior (33,3%); y con
Límites normales los de nivel superior (33,3%) y los de nivel secundaria (25,0%).
Según los años de residencia en el asilo, el mayor porcentaje de adultos
mayores con Depresión intensa son los que residen de 16 a más años (50,0%) y
los de 6 a 10 años (40,0%); con Depresión moderada a intensa los que residen
de 16 a más años (50,0%) y los de 5 a menos años (42,9%); con Depresión leve
a moderada los que residen de 6 a 10 años (30,0%) y los de 5 a menos años
(21,4%); y con Límites normales los de 5 a menos años (10,7%)
En forma global, el 30% de adultos mayores presentan Depresion intensa, el
40% Depresion moderada a intensa, el 22,5% Depresión leve a moderada, y el
7,5% Límites normales. Considerando los niveles de depresión desde el nivel
leve al nivel intenso, se observa un 92,5% de adultos mayores con Depresión.
The present descriptive study aims to determine the level of depression in older adults housed in a nursing home in the city of Iquitos. The Zung Depression Self-Assessment Scale was used, in a sample of 40 older adults with characteristics: 67.5% male, 45.0% in a range of 70 to 79 years of age, 82, 5% have primary education and 70.0% reside in the nursing home for 5 to fewer years. According to sex, it is observed that a higher percentage of older male adults have severe depression (37.0%) and moderate to severe depression (40.7%). While a higher percentage of older female adults present mild to moderate depression (30.7%); and Normal limits (15.4%). According to age, a higher percentage with Intense Depression is observed in adults older than 90 years and over (50.0%) and 70 to 90 years (33.3%); with moderate to severe depression in those aged 70 to 79 (50.0%) and those aged 80 to 89 (36.4%), with mild to moderate depression in those aged 60 to 69 (42.8%) and those from 80 to 89 years old (36.4%).
