Abstract
Tipo cuantitativo,
no experimental, descriptivo, observacional, correlacional, prospectivo y
c= 16,645;
This study was carried out with the objective of determining the relationship that exists between oral hygiene and dental caries in adolescents from the IPRESS I-4 of Bellavista Nanay from July to December 2023. Quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive type, observational, correlational, prospective and cross-sectional cohort; population 2,857, sample 339 adolescents. The female sex prevailed (70.8%); 12 years old (18%), second year of secondary school (24.5%). I master the regular oral hygiene index (64.9%); 51.3% had dental caries and 48.7% did not have it; moderate ICPOD (34.8%); The female sex prevailed with decayed and missing teeth, and ICPOD of 2.91, and the male sex had filled teeth and ICPOD of 2.63. At 15 years old, they had more carious teeth and ICPOD of 2.57 (low), at 17 years old, they had higher ICPOD of 3.44 (moderate), missing teeth and at 13 years, they had filled teeth and ICPOD of 3.22 (moderate). 28% presented dental caries and regular IHOS, 36.9% did not present dental caries; those who showed dental caries (23.3%), 11.8% did not present it and the IHOS was bad. With the Chi square test X2c= 16.645; p_value= 0.000 < 0.05; That is, with an error less than 0.05%, the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. It is concluded that there is a relationship between oral hygiene and dental caries in adolescents from the IPRESS I-4 Bellavista Nanay, demonstrating that the majority of adolescents do not have good oral hygiene practices.
