Variables relacionadas al nivel de autoestima de adultos con VIH-SIDA atendidos en un Hospital Público de Iquitos

Abstract

El VIH-SIDA influye de manera negativa en la calidad de vida de las personas que la padecen, son conocidas sus repercusiones físicas, psicosociales y emocionales, que menoscaban su autoestima perjudicando su salud ya debilitada. Objetivo: Determinar las variables relacionadas al nivel de autoestima en adultos con VIH-sida atendidos en un hospital público de Iquitos. Material y métodos: Estudio cuantitativo, diseño descriptivo transversal. La muestra estuvo constituida por 200 adultos a quienes se aplicó un cuestionario con preguntas relacionadas a características sociodemográficas y clínicas, cuestionario MOS de apoyo social y la Escala de Autoestima de Cooper Smith modificada. Resultados: El 74.5% eran jóvenes, 70.5% del sexo masculino, 65.0% solteros, 55.0% con nivel secundario, 97% de procedencia urbana, 44.5% con ingreso económico menor a S/. 500.00 soles, 59.0% recibe menor apoyo social, 58.0% con tiempo de diagnóstico de 1 a 4 años, 48.5% con valores medios de CD4 y 95.0% con autoestima buena. Conclusiones: Las variables que mostraron relación estadística significativa con el nivel de autoestima fueron la edad, procedencia y tiempo de enfermedad(p<0,05).
Background: HIV-AIDS has a negative influence on the quality of life of people who suffer from it, its physical, psychosocial and emotional repercussions are known, which undermine their self-esteem, damaging their already weakened health. Objective: To determine the variables related to the level of self-esteem in adults with HIVAIDS treated in a public hospital in Iquitos. Material and methods: Quantitative study, transversal descriptive design. The sample consisted of 200 adults who were questioned with questions related to sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, MOS social support questionnaire, Self-esteem Scale (Cooper Smith modified 1981). Results: Of the 200 adults, 74.5% were young, 70.5% male, 65.0% single, 55.0% secondary, 97% urban, 44.5% with income less than S/. 500.00 soles, 59.0% receive less social support, 58.0% with diagnosis time from 1 to 4 years, 48.5% with average values of CD4 and 95.0% with good self-esteem. Conclusions: The variables that showed a significant statistical relationship with the level of self-esteem were age, origin and time of illness (p<0.05).
