Abstract
The type of research was non-experimental since the work was carried out without manipulating any variables. The data was collected through the application of a survey that was directed to 57 market vendors. The main results are shown to be the type of waste generated during their activity in the market, thus we have that 33 people (58%) generate plastic waste; 16 people (28%) generate plant food waste; 5 people (8%) paper and cardboard; 2 people (4%) glass and 1 person (2%) generates metals. The sellers show little knowledge regarding the segregation of their waste, so we have that 29 of them (51%) carry out the separation; while 28 people (49%) do not separate or segregate waste. The market vendors do not perceive the seriousness of the pollution problem, since 28 people (49%) consider it serious; 19 people (33%) consider it not serious; 9 people (16%) consider it very serious and only 1 person (2%) does not know about the subject. The population surveyed does not assume responsibility for the management of waste and garbage generated in the market, since 63% mention that it is the responsibility of the municipality; 33% indicate that it belongs to the people and the municipality; and only 4% consider that it is the responsibility of people. Lack of knowledge about the responsibility of solid waste management continues to be a big problem in our population as demonstrated by the result presented. There is little participation of market vendors in the cleaning campaigns, reflected in the fact that 33 people (58%) mention that they never participate; 16 people (28%) participate sometimes; and 8 people (14%) always participate.
