Abstract
The present study aimed to determine the relationship between sociodemographic and socio-economic factors and participation in preventive activities for dengue control in the community of ‘Barrio Florido’, Iquitos, in 2024. A total of 333 people were surveyed, from a representative population of the community, using structured questionnaires. The results showed that the level of participation in preventive activities was predominantly ‘High’ (82.6%), while 17.4% showed ‘Medium’ participation. No respondent showed a ‘Low’ level of participation. Among the socio-demographic factors, age showed a significant association with participation (p = 3.412 × 10-⁶), with those aged 44 years and older showing the highest level of participation (42.6%). However, neither gender (p = 0.6937) nor marital status (p = 0.07556) showed a significant relationship. With respect to socio-economic factors, educational level showed a significant relationship (p = 0.0008192), with participants with primary and secondary education having the highest levels of participation (39.9% and 37.5%, respectively). On the other hand, occupation did not present a significant relationship (p = 0.4156), highlighting that the majority of participants were selfemployed (52.6%) or housewives (30%). These findings show the importance of age and educational level in community participation in preventive activities, highlighting the need for educational and awareness-raising strategies to encourage the involvement of different population groups in dengue prevention.
