Abstract
The present study was oriented to solve the following research problem: What is the frequency of platelet apheresis in donors of the Hemotherapy Center and Type II Blood Bank of Hospital III Iquitos Essalud - 2021? The research objective was: To determine the frequency of platelet apheresis in donors of the Hemotherapy Center and Type II Blood Bank of Hospital III Iquitos Essalud - 2021. Material and methods: This research is quantitative and retrospective, with a non-experimental, descriptive design. We worked with a sample of 2,630 post-interview applicants with blood donors. For the analysis of the information, the statistical package of SPSS V.25 was used. Results: The frequency of applicants for platelet apheresis donation was 123 (4.68%), of which 92 (94.85%) were suitable and 5 (5.15%) were not suitable for serological screening, according to sex and age, there was a higher frequency in the range of 26 - 35 years with 43 (96.15%), of which the male sex was 36 (46.15%) and in female 7 (50%), there was a higher frequency in Thrombocytopenia with 21 (22.83%). The number of platelets was more frequent in the range of 1201 - 1300 x 103/mm3 . Conclusions: In platelet apheresis, a much higher quantity of platelets is obtained and of a higher quality than in a whole blood donation. The donor person recovers very quickly, therefore: Platelets can be donated more frequently (every 15 days).
