Abstract
This study focuses on the evaluation of the roughness of the flexible pavement of the road to Santo Tomás, from the Iquitos-Nauta highway, located in the district of San Juan Bautista, province of Maynas, Loreto region, during the year 2023. For the evaluation, the International Roughness Index IRI and the Pavement Serviciality Index (PSI) were used, in order to identify and quantify the pathologies present in the pavement. IRI measurements were carried out in different sections of the road, and the results indicated that most of the sections have a pavement classified as regular, while some segments were evaluated as good. These findings reveal that, although the rolling surface is not in critical condition, the irregularities observed could compromise the comfort and safety of vehicular traffic. The discussion was complemented with relevant background information, such as the thesis by Cárdenas (2016), who evaluated the PSI and pavement pathologies on Carlos la Torre Cortéz Avenue, in Ayacucho. Both studies highlight the importance of periodic evaluations and the implementation of maintenance programs to prevent accelerated deterioration of pavements. The implementation of a preventive and corrective maintenance program is proposed, along with continuous monitoring and a thorough review of construction procedures, to ensure greater uniformity and durability of the pavement. In addition, it is recommended to develop a medium- and longterm intervention plan, as well as to promote future research that strengthens pavement construction and maintenance practices.
