Abstract
The level of knowledge of mothers in administering ferrous sulfate to their young children, and practicing oral hygiene, is crucial to prevent teeth staining and dental caries. The main objective of this study was to identify the relationship between the level of knowledge of mothers in administering ferrous sulfate and the oral hygiene of infants aged 1 to 3 years, IPRESS I-4, of Iquitos, year 2024. Methodology was quantitative type, descriptive, observational, prospective, correlational, and cross-sectional design. Sample of 351 children. Results: Most mothers (57.5%) belong to the age group of 20 to 29 years, 57.5% (n=202) have primary education, and most infants were 2 years old (35.9%). We found a predominance of a good level of knowledge (44.7%). Prevalence of a good oral hygiene index (56.1%). Primary education prevailed (52%) with a good level of knowledge. In the age group and level of knowledge, mothers aged 14 to 19 and 20 to 29 had a good level of knowledge, while those aged 30 to 40 had an excellent level. It is concluded that mothers had a good level of knowledge regarding the administration of ferrous sulfate, and the oral hygiene of infants who ingested ferrous sulfate was good. There is a significant statistical relationship between the level of knowledge of mothers when administering ferrous sulfate and the oral hygiene of infants aged 01 to 3 years.
