The professional sufficiency project whose objective is to determine how the carbon fiber reinforcement (CFRP) in the structural elements of the sixstory building improves the behavior of the structure in the presence of an earthquake, improves the behavior of the structure in the presence of an earthquake, because these structural elements were built without the quality control required for a building of such size, originally the structural elements were designed and built for two levels, but with the passage of time, four more levels were built without qualified technical assistance, generating new stresses on the structure and therefore the structural elements are out of design. In the research project the indications and formulas presented in the International Standard ACI 440-2R17 were used, based on this standard a calculation sheet was developed which allows inserting the seismic effects for the design of the reinforcement in the structural elements subjected to tension and bending. Carbon fibers increase tensile strength, improve confinement and increase load capacity. The methodology of our research was non-experimental, with an application orientation. It was determined that the six-level building has high seismic vulnerability, because the apparent resistance of the reinforced concrete in its structural elements is deficient, in addition its seismic behavior is inadequate, since the structural elements comply with resisting live and dead loads, but they do not support seismic loads, so it could suffer considerable damage in the event of a large earthquake; therefore the reinforcement with carbon fiber in the structural elements increases their current resistance up to ten times more and improves the behavior of the structure.En_us
