Abstract
In this study research evaluated the relationship between the geomorphological conditions of riverbanks and the effectiveness of river defenses in the human settlements of Porvenir and Micaela Bastidas, located in the district of Iquitos, Maynas Province, Loreto Region. The study followed a quantitative, correlational, and explanatory approach, using direct observation, topographic analysis, and surveys applied to local residents. Based on the explorations carried out and the results of the indicators provided, the variables terrain slope, soil type, soil erosion rate, and river dynamism were able to act as correlators with the estimators of structural and functional effectiveness. Spearman's correlation coefficient demonstrated statistically significant relationships, especially for the relationships of steep slopes with low durability. Furthermore, it was confirmed that sandy soils and banks with high fluvial dynamism degrade more rapidly. At the end of the work, the conclusion is justified that geomorphological conditions are important for the effectiveness of the defenses' purpose. Therefore, in the visible scenario, there is justification for suggesting a technical adaptation between the structures and natural conditions. A reference budget for the defense work has been established, with an estimated direct cost of S/ 5,908,116.45.
