Abstract
Researchers aimed to determine how well the municipality managed solid waste at the Tamshiyacu Municipal Market in Fernando Lores District, Maynas Province. A survey was completed by 96 female vendors who produced approximately 44% of their waste as organic material and 95% said they separate the waste they generate. Almost all (84%) of the vendors said that the municipality has primary responsibility for managing their waste collection. More importantly, while many vendors do separate their waste, the overall awareness of how much of a problem the waste problem is low among the vendors surveyed. An overwhelming majority of the respondents (81%) viewed the issue as not urgent (10% viewed it as a serious issue, while 9% did not have an opinion). Lastly, the results showed a small percentage of vendors (43%) who do not participate in cleaning campaigns regularly, 37% occasionally participate and only 20% participate regularly.
