Abstract
The present study aimed to evaluate the hydraulic efficiency of the existing stormwater drainage system located at the intersections of Prolongación Navarro Cáuper and Los Conquistadores Street, in the district of San Juan Bautista, Maynas, and to propose a redesigned aqueduct system to enhance its performance and reduce flooding risks. The research followed a quantitative approach, based on field data collection of topographic, hydraulic, and urban features, complemented by technical inspection forms, direct measurements, and comparative analysis between the current system and the proposed design. The results revealed that the existing system contained negative slopes, insufficient sections, physical obstructions, and high roughness. As a result, the hydraulic flow was discontinuous, with a flow rate incapable of handling the typical rainfall for that area, given the municipal sewer system. The design proposal according to the report included an enlarged sewer pipe, a slope along the pipe in the opposite direction to the natural slope, and materials with low roughness. This approach increased the flow capacity by more than 273% and resulted in water flow velocities within the self-cleaning range. On the other hand, the newly designed aqueduct eliminated dead spots and provided a controlled and direct drainage channel to the lower river, thus significantly reducing the probability of flooding at any of the intersections analyzed.
