Abstract
he present research project entitled: ‘Reuse of plastic bottles for the production of ecological bricks in single-family housing, Loreto 2023’ aims to design a type II ecological brick for load-bearing walls in accordance with masonry standard E.070, using powdered PET for the mixture designs. We conducted applied research and experimental design to verify the hypotheses. We obtained a total of 120 eco-bricks corresponding to 8, 15 and 22% PET powder analysed at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days of curing. The final strengths of our eco-bricks were f'b = 86.00 and 71.00 kg/cm² for 8 and 15%. Similarly, the f'b of 22% was 48.00 kg/cm². Finally, we identified that our eco-bricks with 8% and 15% PET fell into the type II brick classification, and those with 22% fell into the Non-Load-Bearing (NP) classification according to masonry standard E.070. We concluded that all our eco-bricks were suitable for creating optimal masonry units for use in the construction industry. This study serves as a baseline for future research on the reuse of PET plastic bottles.
